The Army is returning to Rochester Bridge with an overnight simulation of a demolition exercise.
After the success of a previous training exercise in September, the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) will be bringing a new batch of trainee officers to the Old Bridge on Tuesday, 5th June.
The training is a mock demolition conducted by officers participating in the Royal Engineer Troop Commanders’ Course (RETCC). The footway over the Old Bridge and an area of Strood Esplanade will be closed and managed by the Royal Engineers, with the public able to view some of the activity from the Strood bank.
There is an opportunity to sign up for a VIP tour with the military and civil engineers and to hear more about the evening’s activities. This is a free event but will be strictly limited to 25 places. Light refreshments will be provided. Places must be booked by following this link. PLEASE NOTE: This event is now fully-booked. Motorists are also advised there will be a single lane closure on the bridge overnight to enable essential works to take place at the same time as the training, minimising disruption.
The works are part of a routine cleaning programme, and will be carried out by FM Conway on behalf of the Rochester Bridge Trust.
The traffic management is scheduled to run overnight from approximately 9pm until 5am.
