A month of engineering education activities has officially begun with a private viewing of the centrepiece: a world record breaking model bridge.
The bridge, which comprises the longest freestanding span made of interlocking toy bricks, fills the nave of Rochester Cathedral as part of the Rochester Bridge Trust’s summer education offering, All About Bridges.
The aim is to provide engineering education activities free of charge to help inspire and entertain visitors during the summer holidays. These include a selection of hands-on bridge building activities, and the return of the popular bridges adventure golf, which is installed in the Garth Garden.
The world record breaking bridge was constructed by BRICKLIVE, having been created for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
VIP guests were welcomed to the event by the Very Rev’d Dr Philip Hesketh, Dean of Rochester Cathedral; Nick Baveystock, Director General of the Institution of Civil Engineers; and Derek Butler, Junior Warden of the Rochester Bridge Trust.
