The Old Bridge, with its iconic bowstring trusses gliding over the water of the River Medway, is a pretty special view. It’s also eye-catching at night.
As part of the Rochester Bridge Refurbishment Project we’re taking steps to enrich this view with the upgrading of the ornate lighting. We’re also working on ways to make the bridge look a little different, with modern enhancement lighting that can change colour.
Most of the time you won’t notice anything is there, as the lighting will give the bridge a wash of warm white light to bring out the details of the historic structure, but it also gives us the capability to occasionally change the colour of the bridge to mark significant events.
We’re letting you know now because the feature is currently being installed and tested – we don’t want anyone to be surprised if late one night the Old Bridge briefly turns pink or purple.
