Medieval charity mentors future engineers

The Rochester Bridge Trust is pleased to sponsor a trio of new school pupils considered to be promising engineers of the future.

Selected through the Arkwright scheme, the three teenagers will benefit from mentoring and financial support from the Trust while studying for their A-levels.

Known as Rochester Bridge Trust Arkwright Engineering Scholars, two of the pupils – Joshua Rolison and Edward Francesconi – are from Simon Langton Grammar School in Canterbury, while a third – Joe Igoe – is from Colfe’s School in Lee, London.

Senior Warden Russell Cooper met two of the scholars during a presentation ceremony hosted by the Arkwright scheme. He said: “Encouraging, educating and supporting the next generation of engineers is of great importance to the Trust, and so we are pleased to welcome three more scholars to our fold. It was a pleasure to meet Joshua and Joe at the presentation event, and I look forward to meeting Edward at a later date.

“With each new intake of scholars I am impressed by their dedication to their chosen career path and by how they all make the most of the opportunities we are able to offer them. I look forward to seeing the progress made by this next group.”

Scholars are selected for their potential as future engineering leaders by assessing their academic, practical and leadership skills in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Having been chosen by the Trust they are then presented with a financial award, as well as being offered a range of enrichment activities including mentoring, networking and industry visits.
