What do a World Champion, a bridge and a Cathedral have in common? An evening celebrating the official opening of a very special adventure golf course, obviously!
On Tuesday, 30th July, the Rochester Bridge Trust and Rochester Cathedral welcomed more than 100 guests to celebrate the launch of the Bridges Adventure Golf.
Provided by the Rochester Bridge Trust, the nine-hole bridge-themed course is hosted in the Nave of the Cathedral and has already proved popular with families.
Bridge Clerk Sue Threader explained: “This is education by stealth, encouraging children to think about the impact bridges have on their lives and how those crossings are created. We’re thrilled to see how popular the course has already become in the few days since its installation, and feel certain it will help to encourage many more young people to take an interest in the STEM subjects.”
Each hole is accompanied by a brief explanation of the bridge in question, building on the educational experience of the course, as attendees at the launch discovered.
While primarily aimed at families and children, the course has proved a hit with adults too. Guests to the launch event included members of the British Mini Golf Association, including double World Champion Marc Chapman; community representatives; friends, families and a few special characters.
