Are you an inspirational mentor who is helping to support the next generation of civil engineers? Time is running out for you to apply to gain the recognition you deserve.
Just a month remains until the closing date for entries to the Phil Tindall Memorial Medal, which celebrates the efforts of those who have been particularly successful in mentoring new civil engineers.
Presented by the Rochester Bridge Trust in conjunction with the Worshipful Company of Engineers, the award includes a bespoke medal and a £1,000 prize.
The award’s inaugural winner was Richard Brooks of Waterman Group, who said: “I was honoured to win this award, which recognises the importance of sharing knowledge and experience in a positive way.
“I would encourage anyone who is a mentor to apply. The application is easy and it’s a great way to remind yourself of your own achievements – which we mentors often overlook because we’re so focused on supporting our mentees!”
Entry for the award is free of charge via an online nomination form and can be made by anyone – including mentors and mentees. The closing date is 24 March 2025.
James Booth, Director of Bridges at the Trust, added: “Named after an exceptional engineer who played an important role in the lives of many new engineers during his 40-year career, this award is an opportunity to be recognised for inspiring and encouraging young civil engineers.
“I would strongly urge people who are nurturing the great engineers of the future – or who are being mentored by one – to put forward a nomination for the 2025 medal.”
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview at the end of April, with the winners announced and presented with their prize at the Worshipful Company of Engineers’ annual awards dinner on 3 June 2025.
