The Phil Tindall Memorial Medal

How to Enter

All entries should be made using the online entry form below. Self-nomination is encouraged although this should be supported by a testimonial from at least one mentee. Third-party nominations are also accepted, with permission of the nominee.

Nominees must have three years’ mentoring experience in any sector of civil engineering, and be primarily UK-based. They should have demonstrable success in improving the skills, expertise and confidence of early-career engineers, supported by testimonial(s) from the mentee(s). The judges are looking for sustained effort and relationships, usually with more than one mentee, and a commitment by the mentor beyond that which might be expected as part of an individual’s day-to-day employment.

Entries will be reviewed for eligibility by the Rochester Bridge Trust, and the shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an online interview with the panel of judges, comprising:  a Warden and the Bridge Clerk [Chief Executive] of the Rochester Bridge Trust, and a representative of the Worshipful Company of Engineers.

During this interview, finalists will have 15 minutes to give a presentation, followed by questions. The full interview will last for no more than 45 minutes. Interviews will take place at the end of April.

Advice to nominees

The entry form includes a 500-word written statement, with the option to include five pieces of supplementary evidence. The most important part of your nomination is the written statement, which is your chance to stand out to the judges.

The supplementary evidence is not essential but can be used to support your entry. Please note, while written testimonials may be accepted as evidence, these should be kept to a short length.
