Since the 18th century a narrow wooden bridge over the Medway at Wateringbury had joined the parishes of Nettlestead, Yalding, and West Farleigh. In 1915, the Rochester Bridge Trust contributed £1,000 toward the replacement of the dilapidated wooden bridge with a new concrete trestle bridge.
