Contractor profile – Coleman & James

At the Rochester Bridge Trust it is important to us to employ skilled craftspeople who will ensure work is carried out to the highest possible standard.

For this reason, the internal refurbishment of the Bridge Chamber and Bridge Chapel is being carried out by Medway-based Coleman & James, a family-owned civil engineering and building business with a track record for heritage projects.

Their work will be familiar with the community as they recently completed Command of the Heights at Fort Amherst and the Historic Dockyard in Chatham. This project demonstrates Coleman & James’ ability to restore, conserve and enhance the history of the site, celebrating its history and respecting its heritage. During that project they discovered significant archaeological finds.

Coleman & James, which has been operating for more than 45 years, was also recently commended by the Kent Mega Growth 50 awards.

Tim Cathcart, Chief Estates Officer for the Rochester Bridge Trust, said: “We are pleased to know our medieval Bridge Chapel and Victorian Bridge Chamber are in such safe hands as they undergo this significant internal refurbishment.

“Coleman & James is a trusted, local company with excellent credentials and we look forward to the completion of this important project.”
