Motorists are advised there will be temporary single lane closures on the Old Bridge at Rochester, overnight from the 24th to 28th September, to enable essential works to take place.
The works are part of a routine maintenance programme and will be carried out by FM Conway, on behalf of the Rochester Bridge Trust. During this time the steelwork trusses and parapets will be cleaned, as will the porticos and decorative features.
While the single lane closures are taking place, on the night of Tuesday, 25th September, the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) will carry out a mock demolition exercise. An area of Strood Esplanade will be closed and managed by the Royal Engineers, and there may be limited pedestrian access across the Old Bridge – if necessary pedestrians will be advised to use the New Bridge instead.
Traffic management is scheduled to run overnight from approximately 9pm until 5am, in order to minimise disruption to road-users.
