It was with great sadness that the Rochester Bridge Trust has learned of the death of Phil Filmer.
A dedicated and long-standing member of the Court of Wardens and Assistants, Phil was elected Junior Warden from 2017 to 2021, and Senior Warden from 2021 to 2023.
Phil was an Associate Member of the Institution of British Engineers and director of Filmer Contracting Limited, a building and civil engineering firm whose projects included the M2 motorway bridge across the Medway.
Phil served in local government in Medway for many years. In 2003 he was appointed as Medway Council’s portfolio member for frontline services, with responsibility for highways, waste collection, recycling, and public transport.
Medway Council nominated Phil to the Rochester Bridge Trust in 2011 and he served as a member of the Court of Wardens and Assistants until his passing.
Sue Threader, Bridge Clerk (Chief Executive) of the Rochester Bridge Trust, said: “We were greatly saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Phil Filmer. Our thoughts are with Phil’s family at this time.
“All at the Trust who are lucky enough to have known Phil will remember him as an exceptionally kind and dedicated man who greatly enjoyed being part of the Trust.”
