Overnight lane restrictions on Rochester’s bridges

Road users are advised there will be temporary single lane restrictions on the bridges at Rochester overnight from Monday, 11th April, until Friday, 22nd May, to enable essential works to take place.

Single lane traffic management is scheduled to run from approximately 9pm until 5am, Monday to Friday, in order to minimise disruption to road-users.

The works follow on from the multi-million pound Rochester Bridge Refurbishment Project which took place in 2019-20. This is to rectify additional minor issues that were brought to light during those activities, but could not be acted upon at the time.

Activities on the Old Bridge will include mesh installation and painting the lower areas of the bowstring-shaped trusses.

Both bridges will also undergo their periodical routine maintenance to clean the parapets and expansion joints.

The works will be carried out by FM Conway, on behalf of the Rochester Bridge Trust.

A spokesperson said: “These works have been deliberately scheduled to begin after the completion of other nearby overnight activities to minimise disruption to road users.

“The activities were all brought to our attention during the recent refurbishment but could not be addressed at that time due to the need to carry out further investigations and order materials.”
