When working as a civil engineer there are certain items that are obvious for personal safety, such as high visibility clothing, appropriate footwear and a hard hat. There are other things that are less obvious, but still very important for keeping people safe.

Sunburn increases a person’s risk of skin cancer – did you know it’s possible to burn in the UK, even on a cloudy day?

As part of a sensible sun safety routine, the NHS recommends use of sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30, as well as UVA protection. This should be topped up regularly.
