The Rochester Bridge Trust is once again bringing its bridge-themed adventure golf course to the public, hosted this year at St John’s Chatham.
The free golf course, designed to encourage young people to learn more about the engineering behind bridges, will be open to families from Tuesday 28 July to Saturday 8 August.
There will also be free educational activities based around civil engineering.
Each of the course’s six holes are modelled after famous bridges, such as Rochester Bridge and the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. Each hole is accompanied by a brief explanation of the bridge in question, building on the educational experience of the course.
Bridges on the course include previous incarnations of Rochester Bridge: including the Roman Bridge (existing from 43AD until the 14th century), the Medieval bridge (1391-1856), and Sir William Cubitt’s cast-iron bridge (1856-1914).
First unveiled in 2019 at Rochester Cathedral, the course is primarily aimed at families and children, but has proved a hit with adults too. It also made news headlines when it was launched, with many fascinated with the story of an adventure golf course being found inside a cathedral!
This year, the course will be hosted at St. John’s Chatham, a recently restored community space in the heart of Chatham.
St. John’s Chatham was also the recent recipient of Rochester Bridge Trust grant funding, to restore its distinctive stained glass window.
Opening times
The Adventure Golf course will be open 10am-4pm from Tuesday 28 July to Saturday 8 August, excluding Sundays.
