On dark winter nights it’s nice to brighten things up, and so on 1 December the Rochester Bridge Trust’s seasonal enhancement lighting programme will commence.
To make the most of the flexibility of the coloured lights, the Old Bridge is to host a number of different themes.
For the first week, from 1-6 December, we’ll be switching on our festivities with the twinkling lights of a Christmas tree, inspired by a suggestion by Helen Rowe from the Bridge Team.
Then we have a weekend interlude with a good book, when we implement a colour scheme designed by Millie, a work experience student who visited the Trust during the summer. Millie took her inspiration from Charles Dickens and the colours of an old book cover so we thought it would be appropriate to play her scheme now.
Week two, 9-15 December, is a week of staff suggestions. We asked our team to tell us a colour that means something to them for Christmas, then we mixed them all together to come up with a melting pot of ideas to adorn the Old Bridge.
From 16-21 December, week three will have a variation on the Trust’s official colours, with a gold and red sparkle contrasted with a little white.
This will then be jazzed up for week four, when 22-30 December will see the Old Bridge go red, yellow, green and blue to link in with the High Street.
Finally, for 31 December and 1 January, we will see in the new year with a rainbow pattern. As part of our environment policy, the lights will then revert to their standard use on 2 January.
We do hope you enjoy the Old Bridge’s annual festive lights display, which is powered by 100% renewable energy and provided at no cost to the public, by the Rochester Bridge Trust.
