As part of the Rochester Bridge Trust’s ongoing maintenance programme, work will shortly begin to inspect areas of Rochester Esplanade near the Bridge Chamber and Castle.
The work will involve a series of bore holes and trial pits to the side of the roadway.
The inspections will be carried out in phases, running from Monday, 24th October, until Sunday, 6th November. Where possible, work has been scheduled to take place on weekdays, between the hours of 8am and 5pm. However, the location of one test site means some work will take place between 9am and 5pm on Sunday, 6th November.
The aim is to keep the Esplanade open to traffic at all times, however there will be some narrowing of the roads with traffic cones, and an area of pedestrian footway on the river side will be closed. Throughout this time the Rochester Bridge Trust parking spaces provided at the end of the road will also be temporarily closed to the public.
The inspections have been timed in this way as they need to be carried out in daylight.
