Road users are advised there will be temporary single lane restrictions on Rochester’s Old Bridge for five nights from Monday, 28 April, to enable essential works to take place.
Single lane traffic management is scheduled to run from approximately 9pm until 5am, to minimise disruption to road-users.
The works are to carry out routine maintenance, including cleaning, on the Old Bridge.
Routine maintenance is carried out at Net Zero Carbon, using a variety of carbon-friendly working practices. Electricity is provided from 100% renewable sources, and waste materials are re-used or recycled wherever it is possible to do so.
Jim Booth, Director of Bridges at the Rochester Bridge Trust, said: “This activity marks the start of a period of works to paint the upper portion of the downstream side of the Old Bridge’s bowstring-shaped trusses, in a continuation of a programme of works from July 2024, when the upstream side was painted.
“Initially, painting will take place from the closed area of footway on the downstream side of the bridge. During the summer there will be some further overnight single lane closures to enable safe working, we will notify the public nearer the time.”
The works will be carried out by FM Conway, on behalf of the Rochester Bridge Trust.
