Road users are advised there will be changes to previously advertised lane restrictions on Rochester’s bridges from 30th October. This is to allow other areas of the Rochester Bridge Refurbishment Project to progress ahead of schedule.
The proposed overnight single lane closures on the New Bridge have been pushed back by one week, to the week commencing 7th October.
This change is to enable work on the right turn from the New Bridge to Rochester Esplanade to be brought forward.
On Tuesday, 1st October, the right turn will be closed during the day, from 9am to 3pm. This is so work can be carried out to complete the granite balustrade. For safety reasons this must be carried out during the day, so off-peak hours have been chosen to minimise disruption. Road users will be asked to use a marked diversion.
The scheduled overnight routine maintenance on the Old Bridge has also been postponed, to reduce disruption during this time. However one overnight single lane closure will still take place, on Wednesday, 2nd October, in addition to the regular overnight single lane closures that continue to occur on Saturdays.
All single lane closures will be carried out overnight from approximately 9pm until 5am, in order to minimise disruption to road users.
The works are being carried out by contractor FM Conway, on behalf of the Rochester Bridge Trust.
